Government Official Confirms MoD Examining Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Staff Instructed to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense official has confirmed that the MoD is actively investigating the potential threats associated with Chinese vehicles, and staff have been instructed to refrain from talking about classified matters in all cars.

Security Guidance for MoD Staff

During a recent interview on LBC, a defence minister addressed claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to discuss secret information while travelling in China-made cars.

The minister explained that the MoD is “looking into” cars from China within its fleets, but emphasised that safety is a issue in all modern cars.

Our department has a fleet of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is not to plug MoD devices into their car, to avoid having discussions at a classified classification in any car, due to the increasing risks of surveillance that are present in all vehicle, to restrict those secret conversations in protected areas. This is a prudent and sensible thing for everyone concerned about security.

After it was suggested that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard replied: ‘That’s exactly what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Security Background

This revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the existence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable China to switch off public transport and bring chaos to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship has been directing lasers at RAF pilots, described as a “highly dangerous” act by defence officials.

This wider security situation highlights the significance of robust protocols and vigilance in every aspects of official operations, from transport usage to communication habits.
